An unexpected shot in the 73rd minute by Desiderio Sugar got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. River Plate's Ezequiel Illan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save River Plate from getting a goal against them. When Rodrigo Naldo fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored River Plate's protests and gave Rodrigo Naldo a yellow card for diving instead. Despite being the better team, River Plate failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
