After 10 minutes, Everardo Ostargi made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Echegoyen AFC's Alfonso Ekialde tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After 13 minutes of play, River Plate's Lisandro Jerardo made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Flavio Papetti took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alfonso Ekialde. If Sergio Vitin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lisandro Jerardo struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Alfonso Ekialde didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for River Plate. 1-5 became the score in the 42nd minute when Flavio Papetti elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Lisandro Jerardo scored 1-6 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alfonso Ekialde, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The Echegoyen AFC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. River Plate were winning 1-6.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Flavio Papetti to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute Flavio Papetti shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfonso Ekialde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of River Plate booed when Echegoyen AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position.
