After 15th play minutes Matias Bilintx shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Remigio Cisco and just under the crossbar into goal. Matias Bilintx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Remigio Cisco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. LegionArgentina's Remigio Cisco proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save LegionArgentina from getting a goal against them. Remigio Cisco stood somewhat misplaced when Matias Bilintx came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 23 minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Saturnino Curcio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Saturnino Curcio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Remigio Cisco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 27 minutes into the game, LegionArgentina's Julián Álvarez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Óscar Cordoba made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. After having played for 29 minutes, Matias Bilintx managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting de Gijón's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matias Bilintx was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 32 minutes into the match, Julián Álvarez had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Óscar Cordoba. Sporting de Gijón's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Julián Álvarez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julián Álvarez in the 36th minute of the match. LegionArgentina were awarded a corner in the 37th minute after Sporting de Gijón's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Julián Álvarez took the corner. The audience was convinced that Matias Bilintx's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Remigio Cisco was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. It was a well-played corner which Alejandro Rufo managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matias Bilintx made a kick off. Óscar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Arnaldo Gabino sent off a good shot on target. Remigio Cisco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 55th minute of play. After some careless play in the LegionArgentina defense, Matias Bilintx kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Remigio Cisco. The LegionArgentina fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Remigio Cisco should have stopped the shot. In the 59th minute, Matias Bilintx ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Remigio Cisco was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-2. After 61 played minutes LegionArgentina got a freekick which was hit by Julián Álvarez. In the 65thth minute of the game Matias Bilintx who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but LegionArgentina's Remigio Cisco was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 67th minute, Esteban Ekaitz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Mario Zanabria replaced Saturnino Curcio. The supporters of LegionArgentina booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. LegionArgentina's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Remigio Cisco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 82nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto got a free kick in the 84th minute. In the 87th minute, Matias Bilintx made a precise shot to the right of Remigio Cisco. LegionArgentina's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 7-2. 89 minutes into the match, LegionArgentina's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Maradona came free, but Remigio Cisco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 91 minutes LegionArgentina's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gabriel Diaz who took care of the corner kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matias Bilintx in the 93rd minute of play forced LegionArgentina's goalkeeper Remigio Cisco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Sporting de Gijón fully deserved thier win.
