Duncan Dunn showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bart Furlong, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Paul Major came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by Vauxhall United's Adam Burley. But to his dismay, Adam Burley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Len Longley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Paul Major tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 36 minutes into the match, Austin Hurst notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Vauxhall United's Duncan Dunn. Duncan Dunn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 40 minutes into the match, Whiteley FC's goal looked a bit too open when Adam Burley came free, but Paul Major reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Len Longley came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Vauxhall United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Len Longley couldn't finish the play. In the 45thth minute of the game Adam Burley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Whiteley FC's Paul Major was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Peter Crowther made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Len Longley in the 56th minute of play forced Whiteley FC's goalkeeper Paul Major to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 63 minutes into the match, Whiteley FC's goal looked a bit too open when Adam Burley came free, but Paul Major reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 64th minute Peter Crowther shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Duncan Dunn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Austin Hurst charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Austin Hurst the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Vauxhall United booed when Whiteley FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Austin Hurst didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 87th minute, Joel Sykes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Vauxhall United's Len Longley in the 88th minute got a chance for a shot 88th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Whiteley FC's goalie prevented a goal. In the 94th minute, Bart Furlong hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adam Burley recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Whiteley FC's Paul Major played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adam Burley in the 97th minute of play. Adam Burley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 99th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Whiteley FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
