Perry Burns showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carl Moyle, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. In the 7th minute, Jonathon Rose hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Darlington FC's zone, Francis Trotter stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Perry Burns came out of the goal and Francis Trotter tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Perry Burns took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francis Trotter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute, Ed Burgess hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 25th minute, Kris Medley made a precise shot to the right of Barney Simms. Weybridge's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carl Moyle in the 28th minute of play forced Darlington FC's goalkeeper Perry Burns to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 29th minute Francis Trotter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Perry Burns saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Dave Rusby had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Francis Trotter received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Perry Burns tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Perry Burns stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carl Moyle's shot from short distance in the 47th minute.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francis Trotter stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Carl Moyle took the ball and in the 52 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Perry Burns. Perry Burns dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Barney Simms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kris Medley in the 56th minute of play. Weybridge's Barney Simms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kris Medley in the 63rd minute of play. Carl Moyle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Perry Burns having to interfere. If Kris Medley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Barney Simms made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
