Spectators: 10788 (Terracing: 8092, Seating: 2481, VIP seats: 215) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Jermaine Ellerby made the kick off which started today's match. Rory Wilkinson charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rory Wilkinson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 4th minute, Rory Wilkinson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jermaine Ellerby fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phillip Deveraux having to interfere. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Fawards's goalkeeper Rob Dimmock, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, Ashton-in-Makerfield's Phillip Deveraux got control of the ball when Ivan Fuller tried to sneak it across the goal line. Toby Flynn struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Phillip Deveraux didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Fawards. Toby Flynn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ashton-in-Makerfield's Phillip Deveraux played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jermaine Ellerby in the 27th minute of play. Rob Dimmock came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Ashton-in-Makerfield's Rory Wilkinson. But to his dismay, Rory Wilkinson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 42 minutes into the match, Fawards's goal looked a bit too open when Rory Wilkinson came free, but Rob Dimmock reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rory Wilkinson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 45th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Fawards getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Jermaine Ellerby hit a great ball. The Fawards players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ashton-in-Makerfield were winning 0-1.

53 minutes into the match, Ashton-in-Makerfield's goal looked a bit too open when Jermaine Ellerby came free, but Phillip Deveraux reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rob Dimmock was a little too slow when Rory Wilkinson got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 56th minute. The score was now 0-2. If Toby Flynn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 66 minutes, Harvey Colbert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ashton-in-Makerfield and the Fawards players grew even worse after the yellow card. Rob Dimmock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rory Wilkinson in the 71st minute of play. Ashton-in-Makerfield's Rory Wilkinson got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Harvey Colbert scored 0-4 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rob Dimmock, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Rob Dimmock took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rory Wilkinson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jermaine Ellerby fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 88th minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. Rob Dimmock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harvey Colbert in the 98th minute of play. The Ashton-in-Makerfield supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ashton-in-Makerfield would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
