The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elbert Hinriksson in the 7th minute of play forced Markaðsnetið's goalkeeper Valter Halsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gala Akranesi's Þorgils Valdsson couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 10th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Markaðsnetið. Ástvar Skaptason fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valter Halsson having to interfere. In the 13th minute Elbert Hinriksson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valter Halsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Ástvar Skaptason had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Krister Mánason took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Auðgeir Arnleifsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Auðgeir Arnleifsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Elbert Hinriksson made a kick off. Ástvar Skaptason's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valter Halsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. After some careless play in the Gala Akranesi defense, Auðgeir Arnleifsson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Krister Mánason. The Gala Akranesi fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Krister Mánason should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Gala Akranesi's Tumas Tómasson got a free kick in the 60th minute. 62 minutes into the game, one of Markaðsnetið:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Ástvar Skaptason recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 70 minutes, Elbert Hinriksson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gala Akranesi's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elbert Hinriksson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Krister Mánason made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Þorri Heimisson in the 74th minute of play. Þorri Heimisson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Auðgeir Arnleifsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Elbert Hinriksson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Valter Halsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Þorri Heimisson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
