The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ívan Egilsson made a fantastic save in the 5th minute, when Hallberg Másson sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Þiðrandi Bergmansson in the 6th minute of play forced GróttaUTD's goalkeeper Ívan Egilsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, GróttaUTD's Ívan Egilsson got control of the ball when Hallberg Másson tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of GróttaUTD booed when Vernd Þórshöfn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dónaldur Hrútsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, Vernd Þórshöfn's Ívan Egilsson threw himself towards the right post 18 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Þiðrandi Bergmansson, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Vernd Þórshöfn's Þiðrandi Bergmansson in the 20th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Ívan Egilsson was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for GróttaUTD through an amazing save. When Vernd Þórshöfn's Indriði Árnason in the 27th minute got a chance for a shot 27th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye GróttaUTD's goalie prevented a goal. Ívan Egilsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Þiðrandi Bergmansson in the 28th minute of the match. Ívan Egilsson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hallberg Másson in the 29th minute. 30 minutes into the match, GróttaUTD's goal looked a bit too open when Þiðrandi Bergmansson came free, but Ívan Egilsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Vernd Þórshöfn's Hallberg Másson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ívan Egilsson. That made the score 1-0 after 33 minutes of play. Indriði Árnason kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. When Líni Kristinsson came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the GróttaUTD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Líni Kristinsson couldn't finish the play. Glúmur Arnþórsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 46 minutes into the match, Loftur Guðbjörnsson dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ívan Egilsson, 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Þiðrandi Bergmansson to make the kick off. GróttaUTD's Ívan Egilsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Þiðrandi Bergmansson in the 52nd minute of play. Ívan Egilsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Loftur Guðbjörnsson in the 56th minute of play. Dagfari Orrason recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Glúmur Arnþórsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jörvar Gíslason having to interfere. In the 66th minute Ósvífur Dónaldsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ívan Egilsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jörvar Gíslason showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Glúmur Arnþórsson in the 69th minute of the match. Ívan Egilsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Loftur Guðbjörnsson in the 70th minute of play. Glúmur Arnþórsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jörvar Gíslason having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Glúmur Arnþórsson managed to get in a good position for a shot. GróttaUTD's supporters rose to their feet, but Glúmur Arnþórsson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jörvar Gíslason breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 84 minutes into the match, GróttaUTD's goal looked a bit too open when Hallberg Másson came free, but Ívan Egilsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vernd Þórshöfn's Hallberg Másson got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 91st match minute, GróttaUTD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dagfari Orrason to maneuver through the defense. If Þiðrandi Bergmansson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 96 minutes into the match, GróttaUTD's goal looked a bit too open when Indriði Árnason came free, but Ívan Egilsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. GróttaUTD's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
