With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bernódus Þormóðsson in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Steinvarður Karelsson saved Ýmus Suðureyri from getting behind. Ýmus Suðureyri's Steinvarður Karelsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bernódus Þormóðsson in the 45th minute of play. Steinvarður Karelsson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Steinar Sturluson in the 48th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Skírnir Guðbjartsson to make the kick off. Steinar Sturluson scored 3-1 in the 67th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Steinvarður Karelsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 72 minutes into the match, Ýmus Suðureyri's goal looked a bit too open when Steinar Sturluson came free, but Steinvarður Karelsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Valur Ísafirði booed when Ýmus Suðureyri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Þórgrímur Þráinson didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Blær Oddvarsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Steinar Sturluson managed to get in a good position for a shot.
