The supporters of Varðan booed when Ýmus Suðureyri was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ingjaldur Jónsteinsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Steinvarður Karelsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hildibergur Númason, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Hildibergur Númason was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 13th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Hyltir Arnbergsson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 21stth minute, Mekkinó Þráinson skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Varðan's Hildibergur Númason got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Ýmus Suðureyri's zone, Hildibergur Númason stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Steinvarður Karelsson came out of the goal and Hildibergur Númason tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 41 minutes into the match, Varðan's Hildibergur Númason sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Steinvarður Karelsson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Skírnir Guðbjartsson was the one to do the kick off. Mekkinó Þráinson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hyltir Arnbergsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 56th minute, Jesper Karelsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ás Erlendsson kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. In the 63rd minute Hildibergur Númason shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steinvarður Karelsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Ýmus Suðureyri's Ingjaldur Jónsteinsson got a free kick in the 79th minute.
