Alston City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tynemouth United the free kick. After a rather tough play, Alston City's Fitz Robson got a free kick in the 17th minute. Krsto Pejčić who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 19thth minute tested the skills of Len Bowler when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 22nd minute Krsto Pejčić shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Len Bowler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Tynemouth United defense, Daniel Parry kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Velisav Bojović. The Tynemouth United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Velisav Bojović should have stopped the shot. If Krsto Pejčić had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alston City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Krsto Pejčić was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Daniel Parry's late challenge caught a Tynemouth United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Daniel Parry helped the player get up and apologised. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Krsto Pejčić made a kick off. Alston City's Len Bowler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cane Savović in the 51st minute of play. The Tynemouth United fans' excitement grew in the 61st match minute when Tynemouth United's Rajko Valentić looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 4-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Tynemouth United fully deserved thier win.
