After a defensive mix-up in UWA Penarth's zone, Olwydd Farley stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brad Gately came out of the goal and Olwydd Farley tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Ely booed when UWA Penarth was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maxen Boham didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 28thth minute of the game Llwydeu Colville who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but UWA Penarth's Brad Gately was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 31 minutes into the match, Llwydeu Colville notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of UWA Penarth's Brad Gately. Brad Gately was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Sel Faherty had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brad Gately made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olwydd Farley in the 42nd minute of play. Sel Faherty fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Garnock Gilboy having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rhett Gee was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute, one of Ely:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Ely. Dywel Gooch shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. A collision led to UWA Penarth getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Maxen Boham hit a great ball. After 59 minutes, Tomos Chaston mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ely and the UWA Penarth players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ely's supporters crossed their fingers, but Llwydeu Colville was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 81st minute, Olwydd Farley reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Brad Gately. The goal made the score 0-2. Garnock Gilboy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rhett Gee, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Llwydeu Colville received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Brad Gately tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 96th minute, Nissyen Faircloth hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Ely supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ely would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
