Nynnyaw Linkletter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Teregud Kirk having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Rhun Barnett managed to get in a good position for a shot. UWA Aberystwyth's supporters rose to their feet, but Rhun Barnett was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Teregud Kirk breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Teregud Kirk stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nynnyaw Linkletter's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. Albanwr Cummins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edern Gaughan having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, Nynnyaw Linkletter dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Teregud Kirk, 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in UWA Aberystwyth's zone, Albanwr Cummins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edern Gaughan came out of the goal and Albanwr Cummins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 43 minutes, Lludd Featherston managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newport Utd's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lludd Featherston was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nynnyaw Linkletter to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute of the match Brathach Gill sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Teregud Kirk skillfully saved the ball. UWA Aberystwyth's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newport Utd the free kick. After a rather tough play, UWA Aberystwyth's Corryn Fry got a free kick in the 95th minute. With his leg Edern Gaughan managed to avoid a goal in the 96thth minute, when Newport Utd's Albanwr Cummins fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Newport Utd's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
