Caid Essediri came out of the goal and Slaheddine Bourchada tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ali Maatouk fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Caid Essediri having to interfere. In the 19thth minute of the game Mustafa Ghigani who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rushden United's Ben Ayari was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lassaad Hermassi got free with Ben Ayari in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ali Maatouk to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mustafa Ghigani in the 53rd minute of play forced Rushden United's goalkeeper Ben Ayari to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Rushden United supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Rushden United would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
