Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) With an all-out effort, Johnstone's Matt McAlonie threw himself towards the right post 3 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from David McKieson, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a defensive mix-up in Bellshill United's zone, Robert Monach stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Matt McAlonie came out of the goal and Robert Monach tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 13th minute, Robert Monach ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Matt McAlonie was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 19th minute, Gordon Forrister hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 22nd minute David McKieson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matt McAlonie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Robert Monach sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charlie Edwards in the 32nd minute of play forced Johnstone's goalkeeper Charlie McOmie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 34th minute Steve Colyear shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charlie McOmie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Steve Colyear recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Matt McAlonie made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robert Monach in the 42nd minute. Steve Colyear's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Charlie McOmie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Steve Colyear made a kick off. The supporters of Bellshill United booed when Johnstone was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robert Monach didn't get a good kick on the ball. 57 minutes into the match, Bellshill United's goal looked a bit too open when David McKieson came free, but Matt McAlonie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Charlie Edwards fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charlie McOmie having to interfere. Charlie McOmie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Steve Colyear, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. After having played for 64 minutes, Steve Colyear managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bellshill United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Steve Colyear was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Charlie McOmie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Steve Colyear, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Steve Colyear in the 73rd minute of play forced Johnstone's goalkeeper Charlie McOmie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Johnstone's Charlie McOmie proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Johnstone from getting a goal against them. David McKieson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matt McAlonie having to interfere. If Robert Monach had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Matt McAlonie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David McKieson in the 84th minute of the match. Charlie Edwards who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 95thth minute tested the skills of Charlie McOmie when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
