After a defensive mix-up in Aston Villa F.C.'s zone, Les McWalrick stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Peter Connall came out of the goal and Les McWalrick tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 28th minute, Nick McNamell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Peter Connall stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bob McCombie's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. Bob McCombie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Peter Connall made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Les McWalrick in the 38th minute of play. 40 minutes into the match, Les McWalrick notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Aston Villa F.C.'s Peter Connall. Peter Connall was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Bob McCombie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Peter Connall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The wind increased when Les McWalrick made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Reece McQuarrie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wal Fair saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peter Connall made an important save on a dangerous shot by Bob McCombie in the 52nd minute. Hugh Walters recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Peter Connall showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Les McWalrick in the 60th minute of the match. Canonbie's Wal Fair played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hugh Walters in the 82nd minute of play. In the 84th minute Les McWalrick shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Connall saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Aston Villa F.C.'s Peter Connall got control of the ball when Bob McCombie tried to sneak it across the goal line. Peter Connall showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bob McCombie in the 92nd minute of the match. The supporters of Canonbie booed when Aston Villa F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miles McRaild didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Aston Villa F.C. fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Canonbie were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
