If Alan McQuaire had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. After 22 minutes of play, Highlanders SC's Archie McGill made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Patrick McMurchie was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 28th minute Archie McGill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick McMurchie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alan McQuaire blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Patrick McMurchie having to make a save. In the 31st minute Archie McGill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick McMurchie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the game, Archie McGill cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Patrick McMurchie was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 38th minute, one of Johnstone United:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Johnstone United. The referee gave Highlanders SC a penalty, 41 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Keith McLaverty, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Johnstone United's Patrick McMurchie. 1-4.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Terence McCoull to make the kick off. If Archie McGill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Highlanders SC's Archie McGill got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Alan McQuaire had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jonathan McDiarmid took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 72nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nick Findlay. Highlanders SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Nick Findlay made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Timothy Brewster in the 75th minute of play. Nick Findlay showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Terence McCoull in the 80th minute of the match. Ronan Martin's late challenge caught a Johnstone United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ronan Martin helped the player get up and apologised. In the 80th match minute, Highlanders SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronan Martin to maneuver through the defense. When Johnstone United's Terence McCoull in the 86th minute got a chance for a shot 86th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
