Seating: 1791, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Elliot Donaldson took the kick off in the first half of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paddy Lemond in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Matt Neilson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A nice corner shot did that Harold McHendry got away a dangerous shot. Despite this John Arrol quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Melrose's Matt Neilson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Melrose from getting a goal against them. In the 26th minute, Paddy Lemond left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hawick AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. In the 28th match minute, Melrose was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lewis McCause to maneuver through the defense. John Arrol showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elliot Donaldson, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. If Donald McKnight had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Paddy Lemond made a kick off. In the 57th minute Paddy Lemond shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matt Neilson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. James Sinclair received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Matt Neilson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Matt Neilson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from James Sinclair, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. James Sinclair fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matt Neilson having to interfere. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Melrose's goalkeeper Matt Neilson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 70th minute James Sinclair shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matt Neilson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paddy Lemond in the 72nd minute of play forced Melrose's goalkeeper Matt Neilson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Quentin Murchison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Matt Neilson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Hawick AFC's Paddy Lemond in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Melrose's goalie prevented a goal. Quentin Murchison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Matt Neilson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paddy Lemond might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Matt Neilson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paddy Lemond ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to Melrose getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Innes Falconer hit a great ball. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
