Kenneth McCartney showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vincent Fair, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 39 minutes into the game, Harry McIan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cupar City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Heriot United the free kick. After 39 played minutes Cupar City got a freekick which was hit by Harry McIan. Keith McGilroy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kenneth McCartney having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Nicholas Cluny came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Heriot United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nicholas Cluny couldn't finish the play. Keith McGilroy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Kenneth McCartney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vincent Fair in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kenneth McCartney prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Heriot United's Kenneth McCartney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save Heriot United from getting a goal against them. When Cupar City's Vincent Fair in the 77th minute got a chance for a shot 77th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Heriot United's goalie prevented a goal. In the 80thth minute of the game Graeme Barton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cupar City's Kieran Forester was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Keith McGilroy got free with Kenneth McCartney in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 85 played minutes Heriot United got a freekick which was hit by Steve Elder. In the 88th minute, Vincent Fair got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Heriot United's zone, Vincent Fair stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kenneth McCartney came out of the goal and Vincent Fair tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Heriot United had won after a very even match.
