After having played for 3 minutes, Ron Jeffrey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Oldcastle Retirement Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ron Jeffrey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dalkeith FC's Robert Gregory played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rod Clanachan in the 14th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jeremy McInnes in the 19th minute of play forced Dalkeith FC's goalkeeper Robert Gregory to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 24 played minutes Oldcastle Retirement Club got a freekick which was hit by Vinny McGregor. Allan McGregor made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Finlay Stringer sent off a good shot on target. In the 28th minute, Rod Clanachan ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Robert Gregory was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Rod Clanachan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robert Gregory having to interfere. If Rod Clanachan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rod Clanachan in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Robert Gregory saved Dalkeith FC from getting behind. After 45 minutes, Rick McSwen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Dalkeith FC and the Oldcastle Retirement Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Oldcastle Retirement Club booed when Dalkeith FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rick McSwen didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The wind increased when Rod Clanachan made the kick off in the second half. Allan McGregor stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nicholas Dickson's shot from short distance in the 51st minute. Finlay Stringer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Allan McGregor having to interfere. With a little luck, Dalkeith FC's Robert Gregory got control of the ball when Rod Clanachan tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Oldcastle Retirement Club getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Arthur McKerchar hit a great ball. If Jeremy McInnes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jeremy McInnes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robert Gregory having to interfere. Rod Clanachan in the 69thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Robert Gregory, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rod Clanachan in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Robert Gregory prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicholas Dickson in the 75th minute of play forced Oldcastle Retirement Club's goalkeeper Allan McGregor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Dalkeith FC booed when Oldcastle Retirement Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arthur McKerchar didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Finlay Stringer's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Allan McGregor was relentless in the 77th minute of the game. Rod Clanachans short, quick shot in the 79thth minute got Robert Gregory to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Rod Clanachan received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Robert Gregory came out and tried to block the shot, but Rod Clanachan slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 82nd minute. Finlay Huntly fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robert Gregory having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 91 minutes, Rod Clanachan put it in 0-6 from a short distance just to the right of Robert Gregory. Rod Clanachan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Robert Gregory made a huge save. Oldcastle Retirement Club played a much better game than Dalkeith FC and deserved their victory. The Dalkeith FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
