After a defensive mix-up in Helensburgh's zone, Graeme Dewar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paddy McOmish came out of the goal and Graeme Dewar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alexander Dis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Taylor Basnett in the 13th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Graeme Dewar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lockerbie United's supporters rose to their feet, but Graeme Dewar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paddy McOmish breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 18th minute, Freddie Pearson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind Helensburgh's goalkeeper Paddy McOmish, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, Helensburgh's Paddy McOmish got control of the ball when Terry Reoch tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Terry Reoch came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Lockerbie United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Terry Reoch couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Helensburgh's Freddie Pearson got a free kick in the 45th minute. In the 47th minute, Frankie Gregorson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lockerbie United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Graeme Dewar was the one to do the kick off. After 59 played minutes, Lockerbie United's Gareth Aspin shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Paddy McOmish came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Lockerbie United reached it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Graeme Dewar in the 61st minute of play forced Helensburgh's goalkeeper Paddy McOmish to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 71 minutes, Theo Duffus took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Alexander Dis to make any attempt to save it. A collision led to Lockerbie United getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Drew McLugash hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Graeme Dewar in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paddy McOmish saved Helensburgh from getting behind. In the 84th match minute, Helensburgh was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Freddie Pearson to maneuver through the defense. Norman McLehose took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 84th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Paddy McOmish. Helensburgh's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Norman McLehose charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Norman McLehose the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The goalkeeper, Alexander Dis, was totally fooled by Helensburgh's Theo Burns, who 88 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side.
