Spectators: 6795 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1795, VIP seats: 0) Bob McOwl started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Graeme Dewar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Drew Tonnochy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Drew Tonnochy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Graeme Dewar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Terry Reoch's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Drew Tonnochy was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. After 10 minutes of play, Lockerbie United's Terry Reoch made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Drew Tonnochy was left in no man's land by his defense there! Frankie Gregorson kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Bob McOwl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexander Dis having to interfere. In the 26th minute Graeme Dewar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Drew Tonnochy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alexander Dis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bob McOwl, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. If Gus McQuistan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bob McOwl recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Drew Tonnochy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Graeme Dewar in the 43rd minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

After 51 minutes, Raymond Blair mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kilbirnie and the Lockerbie United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Kevin McQuisten hit a great ball. Kilbirnie's Drew Tonnochy proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Kilbirnie from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Terry Reoch got free with Drew Tonnochy in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alexander Dis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gus McQuistan in the 81st minute of the match. Terry Reoch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Lockerbie United booed when Kilbirnie was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Graeme Crossley didn't get a good kick on the ball. 89 minutes into the match, Terry Reoch notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Kilbirnie's Drew Tonnochy. Drew Tonnochy was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Terry Reoch came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Lockerbie United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Terry Reoch couldn't finish the play. The Lockerbie United supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Lockerbie United would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
