Seating: 1771, VIP seats: 153) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Troy Fife kicked off to start the match. Montrose's Charles Murdoson got a good chance for a goal in the 2nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 5 played minutes Montrose got a freekick which was hit by Chris McCaishe. Gavin Boyle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Charles Murdoson in the 14th minute of play. In the 21st match minute, Heart of Midlothian was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Simon McDulothe to maneuver through the defense. Timmy Guthrie kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edmond Barrie in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gavin Boyle saved Heart of Midlothian from getting behind. 33 minutes into the match, Edmond Barrie had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gavin Boyle. Heart of Midlothian's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Edmond Barrie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Gavin Boyle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmond Barrie in the 37th minute of play. If Charles Murdoson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 42 minutes into the match, Heart of Midlothian's goal looked a bit too open when Charles Murdoson came free, but Gavin Boyle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gavin Boyle didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Charles Murdoson went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. 45 minutes into the match, Montrose's goal looked a bit too open when Troy Fife came free, but Scott McVeagh reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmond Barrie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Joe Lecky's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Scott McVeagh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. In the 61st minute of the match Steven McBeth shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gavin Boyle showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 64th minute Edmond Barrie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gavin Boyle saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Charles Murdoson struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Gavin Boyle didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Montrose. Montrose's Edmond Barrie got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Montrose's Charles Murdoson got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lloyd Hewitt in the 78th minute of play forced Montrose's goalkeeper Scott McVeagh to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 81 minutes into the game, Edmond Barbor was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Heart of Midlothian's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Montrose the free kick. 1-2 became the score in the 93rd minute when Joe Lecky elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The Montrose players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
