Ciaran Rusk started the match with the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Andrew Bain during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 9 played minutes St. Johns FC got a freekick which was hit by Andrew Bain. Jeremy Borthwick struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Rick Suttie didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for St. Johns FC. After a defensive mix-up in Aberdeen FC's zone, Jeremy Borthwick stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rick Suttie came out of the goal and Jeremy Borthwick tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Ciaran Rusk managed to get in a good position for a shot. St. Johns FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ciaran Rusk was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rick Suttie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ciaran Rusk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Aberdeen FC's zone, Jeremy Borthwick stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rick Suttie came out of the goal and Jeremy Borthwick tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rick Suttie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ciaran Rusk in the 28th minute of the match. The supporters of St. Johns FC booed when Aberdeen FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duncan McGilvernock didn't get a good kick on the ball. Shane Dingwall's late challenge caught a St. Johns FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Shane Dingwall helped the player get up and apologised. In the 37th minute, one of Aberdeen FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Aberdeen FC. Rick Suttie had in the 39thth minute some difficulties stopping Andy McCormick's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 40 minutes into the game, Raymond McCammond cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Joshua Gilbride was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When Harold Grewar fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored St. Johns FC's protests and gave Harold Grewar a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to St. Johns FC getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Harold Grewar hit a great ball. After 47 played minutes St. Johns FC got a freekick which was hit by Owen McGilbert. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Thomas Fyfe stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Raymond McCammond in the 54thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Joshua Gilbride, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Jeremy Borthwick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rick Suttie having to interfere. Ciaran Rusk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 71 minutes into the match, St. Johns FC's goalkeeper Joshua Gilbride had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Raymond McCammond. Rick Suttie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harold Grewar in the 74th minute of play. 75 minutes into the match, Aberdeen FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jeremy Borthwick came free, but Rick Suttie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rick Suttie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciaran Rusk, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nathan McCrae kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Andy McCormick might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rick Suttie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Andy McCormick ran back to his position shaking his head. St. Johns FC's Jeremy Borthwick got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 91stth minute of the game Jeremy Borthwick who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Aberdeen FC's Rick Suttie was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After having played for 98 minutes, Thomas Fyfe managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Aberdeen FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Fyfe was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Aberdeen FC's Joshua Gilbride threw himself towards the right post 101 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Nicky McIock, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. St. Johns FC's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
