The audience thought a goal was coming when Timothy Arrol got free with Dominic McKinven in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dominic McKinven made a fantastic save in the 13th minute, when Timothy Arrol sent off a good shot on target. Nathan Connelly fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dominic McKinven having to interfere. Max McKelvie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gordon McHarold, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nathan Connelly in the 24th minute of play forced Saint Johnstone FC's goalkeeper Dominic McKinven to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Miles McColman during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nathan Connelly's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dominic McKinven read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Gordon McHarold might have been able to make a better finish in the 47th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Max McKelvie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gordon McHarold ran back to his position shaking his head.

Gus Hobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nathan Connelly blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dominic McKinven having to make a save. The supporters of Saint Johnstone FC booed when Inverurie Locos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norman Ayres didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dominic McKinven took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Timothy Arrol, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Saint Johnstone FC's Miles McColman got his second yellow card of the match in the 92nd minute. The referee ordered Miles McColman off the ground. In the 93rd match minute, Saint Johnstone FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Miles McColman to maneuver through the defense. Nathan Connelly received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Dominic McKinven tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Saint Johnstone FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
