When Murray Monach fell near the penalty area in the 24th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Inverurie Locos's protests and gave Murray Monach a yellow card for diving instead. The goalkeeper, Max McKelvie, was totally fooled by Forfar's Nicol Lennie, who 25 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Nathan Connelly managed to get in a good position for a shot. Inverurie Locos's supporters rose to their feet, but Nathan Connelly was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. John McJames breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Inverurie Locos getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Murray Monach hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Keith Cumin during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 39th match minute, Inverurie Locos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Keith Cumin to maneuver through the defense. In the 44th minute, Timothy Arrol left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Inverurie Locos fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nathan Connelly to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Inverurie Locos's zone, Tom McCutchen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Max McKelvie came out of the goal and Tom McCutchen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Tom McCutchen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Max McKelvie was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Timothy Arrol got free with John McJames in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Timothy Arrol had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 69 played minutes Forfar got a freekick which was hit by Ter McNeilly. Inverurie Locos's Murray Monach got his second yellow card of the match in the 72nd minute. The referee ordered Murray Monach off the ground. After 73 played minutes Inverurie Locos got a freekick which was hit by Murray Monach. A collision led to Forfar getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Walter McRuer hit a great ball. John McJames made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when Timothy Arrol sent off a good shot on target. In the 83rd minute, Aiden McTear hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 86 minutes, Tom McCutchen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Forfar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tom McCutchen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tom McCutchen in the 87th minute of play forced Inverurie Locos's goalkeeper Max McKelvie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Timothy Arrol struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. John McJames didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Inverurie Locos. Max McKelvie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tom McCutchen in the 92nd minute of play. Inverurie Locos's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
