Angus McIndoe started the match with the kick off. Phil McKechnie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ron Durrant in the 3rd minute of the match. When Ron Durrant came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Newcastleton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ron Durrant couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Newcastleton booed when Girvan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harry McGowan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Angus McIndoe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Phil McKechnie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Newcastleton's Ron Durrant got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Angus McIndoe's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phil McKechnie was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Ron Durrant struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Phil McKechnie didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newcastleton. After 37 played minutes Girvan got a freekick which was hit by Harry McGowan. If Guy McVurie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 43rd match minute, Newcastleton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivan McAskill to maneuver through the defense. Guy McVurie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Newcastleton's Phillip Smith played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josh Dyer in the 47th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Josh Dyer made the kick off in the second half. Phil McKechnie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivan McAskill, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Josh Dyer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Josh Dyer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phillip Smith having to interfere. Phil McKechnie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angus McIndoe, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Girvan's Phil McKechnie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Angus McIndoe in the 61st minute of play. Angus McIndoe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Phil McKechnie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edward McKeochan hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Guy McVurie in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Phillip Smith prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Josh Dyer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guy McVurie struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Phillip Smith didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Girvan had won after a very even match.
