Joseph Cleland struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Charlie Combie didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Airdrie FC. After having played for 31 minutes, Rory Gilespie managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Airdrie FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rory Gilespie was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Wick's Charlie Combie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joseph Cleland in the 34th minute of play. Sean Ogilvie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. John McRaild tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alex Dove hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Ross Edie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Rory Gilespie to strike the kick off in the second half. Joseph Cleland in the 52ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Charlie Combie, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Joseph Cleland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charlie Combie having to interfere. After 62 played minutes Airdrie FC got a freekick which was hit by Alex Dove. The audience was convinced that Sean Ogilvie's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but John McRaild was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. With a little luck, Wick's Charlie Combie got control of the ball when Joseph Cleland tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 69th match minute, Wick was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matt McCondy to maneuver through the defense. A hard shot by Graham Lucas from long distance, 70 minutes into the match, got Charlie Combie's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Charlie Combie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicholas McIlzegowie in the 77th minute of the match. John McRaild made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ross Edie in the 79th minute of play. Sean Hastings hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Wick defense, Rory Gilespie kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Charlie Combie. The Wick fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Charlie Combie should have stopped the shot. Charlie Combie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rory Gilespie in the 86th minute of the match. Joseph Cleland might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Charlie Combie. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Joseph Cleland ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Sean Ogilvie's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but John McRaild was relentless in the 95th minute of the game. Nicholas McIlzegowie kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. John McRaild showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sean Ogilvie, who was totally free with the ball in the 98th minute. Airdrie FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
