Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. 16 minutes into the match, Appin's goal looked a bit too open when Irvin Gillanders came free, but Tom Bartholomew reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carnoustie United's Shaun Farquharson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Carnoustie United from getting a goal against them. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Reece Neish in the 36th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Shaun Farquharson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Jimmy McGilbert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Carnoustie United's Shaun Farquharson got control of the ball when Mike Craig tried to sneak it across the goal line. Shaun Farquharson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mike Craig in the 43rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Carnoustie United's zone, Michael Connelly stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After having played for 55 minutes, Irvin Gillanders managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Carnoustie United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Irvin Gillanders was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kenny McIlwhom's late challenge caught a Appin's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kenny McIlwhom helped the player get up and apologised. Mike Craig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Shaun Farquharson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 66 minutes into the match, Appin's goalkeeper Tom Bartholomew had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jimmy McGilbert. The supporters of Appin booed when Carnoustie United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kenny McIlwhom didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mike Craig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Shaun Farquharson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reece Neish sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Carnoustie United walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
