The referee showed Alistair Nixon the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Alistair Nixon hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. The supporters of Kirkliston booed when Cowdenbeath AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthew Brewster didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Cowdenbeath AFC's Ter Beath got a free kick in the 33rd minute. 35 minutes into the match, Cowdenbeath AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Danny McCanish came free, but Arthur Aitcheson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 37 played minutes Cowdenbeath AFC got a freekick which was hit by Adam Cariston. Irvin Burdon took the ball and in the 39 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Arthur Aitcheson. Arthur Aitcheson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After 42 played minutes Kirkliston got a freekick which was hit by Rod McGilchrist. Danny McCanish sent away a hard shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ciaran McCaw to strike the kick off in the second half. Iain Polson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matthew Brewster in the 55th minute of play. 56 minutes into the match, Cowdenbeath AFC's goalkeeper Arthur Aitcheson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Irvin Burdon. After a defensive mix-up in Cowdenbeath AFC's zone, Gareth Thomson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arthur Aitcheson came out of the goal and Gareth Thomson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciaran McCaw in the 61st minute of play forced Kirkliston's goalkeeper Iain Polson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Danny McCanish fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Aitcheson having to interfere. Cowdenbeath AFC's Arthur Aitcheson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Danny McCanish in the 67th minute of play. Arthur Aitcheson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Danny McCanish, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. After a rather tough play, Cowdenbeath AFC's Matthew Brewster got a free kick in the 73rd minute. Kirkliston's Alistair Nixon got his second yellow card of the match in the 75th minute. The referee ordered Alistair Nixon off the ground. Alistair Nixon kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. In the 76th minute of the match Ter Beath sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Iain Polson skillfully saved the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Irvin Burdon got free with Arthur Aitcheson in the 79th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the Cowdenbeath AFC defense, Irvin Burdon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arthur Aitcheson. The Cowdenbeath AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arthur Aitcheson should have stopped the shot. After 84 played minutes Kirkliston got a freekick which was hit by Gareth Thomson. With a little luck, Cowdenbeath AFC's Arthur Aitcheson got control of the ball when Irvin Burdon tried to sneak it across the goal line. Kirkliston's Irvin Burdon got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rod McGilchrist recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Cowdenbeath AFC's Ter Beath got a free kick in the 98th minute. When the final whistle sounded Kirkliston left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Cowdenbeath AFC.
