Steven Goddard didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kevin Reidfurd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicholas Donnellson in the 9th minute of play. 17 minutes into the game, Kelty's Sid Gruer nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kevin Reidfurd made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 22nd match minute, Kelty was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sid Gruer to maneuver through the defense. Alisdair McLaine received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. David Collier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Gary McGeachin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ellon's Kevin Reidfurd played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Gruer in the 28th minute of play. In the 30th minute, Phil Harper hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gary McGeachin's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but David Collier firmly grabbed it by the left post. Alisdair McLaine received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. David Collier came out and tried to block the shot, but Alisdair McLaine slotted it home off the left post making it 2-1 in the 37th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Boruc Setara in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg David Collier saved Kelty from getting behind. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sid Gruer to make the kick off. Kelty's David Collier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gary McGeachin in the 53rd minute of play. 54 minutes into the match, Kelty's goal looked a bit too open when Boruc Setara came free, but David Collier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 56th minute, Boruc Setara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. David Collier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gary McGeachin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Boruc Setara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Gary McGeachin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Kelty defense, Alisdair McLaine kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of David Collier. The Kelty fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that David Collier should have stopped the shot. David Collier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gary McGeachin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kevin Reidfurd was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Sid Gruer showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-2 in the 96 minute of play. Ellon's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
