Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Vincent Cook started the match with the kick off. William Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sid Gruer in the 6th minute of play. David Collier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Connor Young, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. David Collier stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Connor Young's shot from short distance in the 14th minute. In the 17th minute, Gary Jones hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Tony Martin fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ayr's protests and gave Tony Martin a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Kelty booed when Ayr was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tony Martin didn't get a good kick on the ball. David Collier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vincent Cook, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sid Gruer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Collier having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Kelty's Nick McColl got a free kick in the 34th minute. David Collier came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Ayr's Connor Young. But to his dismay, Connor Young quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 40th minute, Vincent Cook got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nicholas Donnellson charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nicholas Donnellson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 42 played minutes Kelty got a freekick which was hit by Nicholas Donnellson. 44 minutes into the game, Frank Hastings was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ayr's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kelty the free kick. William Collier was out of position in the 48 minute of play, and Sid Gruer capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Sid Gruer really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sid Gruer made a kick off. 61 minutes into the match, Ayr's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Gruer came free, but William Collier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Martin McArthur's late challenge caught a Kelty's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Martin McArthur helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Ayr's Martin McArthur got a free kick in the 61st minute. When Kelty's Sid Gruer in the 64th minute got a chance for a shot 64th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ayr's goalie prevented a goal. William Collier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sid Gruer, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Connor Young fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Collier having to interfere. If Connor Young had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kelty's Nicholas Donnellson got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sid Gruer succeeded in the game's 79th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-1. After 83 minutes of play Ayr's Martin McArthur was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 84 played minutes Ayr got a freekick which was hit by Martin McArthur. Ayr's William Collier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Gruer in the 85th minute of play. David Collier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Connor Young in the 87th minute of play. Sid Gruer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Collier having to interfere. William Collier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sid Gruer in the 94th minute of the match. Ayr's William Collier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sid Gruer in the 95th minute of play.
