The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Auchterarder booed when Dunbeath FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eric McMurdo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aidan McSwan recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ken McVicar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Derek McWhannell having to interfere. In the 32nd minute Ken McVicar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Derek McWhannell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 34 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Auchterarder! Ken McVicar struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Derek McWhannell didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dunbeath FC. In the 47th minute, Danny Lees left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Dunbeath FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After the first half Dunbeath FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ken McVicar to make the kick off. Dunbeath FC's Ken McVicar got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Derek McWhannell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ken McVicar in the 56th minute of the match. After having played for 64 minutes, Danny Lees managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dunbeath FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Danny Lees was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Nigel Reidfurd fell near the penalty area in the 72nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Auchterarder's protests and gave Nigel Reidfurd a yellow card for diving instead. After 72 played minutes Auchterarder got a freekick which was hit by Nigel Reidfurd. After a defensive mix-up in Auchterarder's zone, Danny Lees stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Derek McWhannell came out of the goal and Danny Lees tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Dunbeath FC's goalkeeper Mike Gunn, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Dunbeath FC's Chris McFergus got a free kick in the 77th minute. Auchterarder's Mike McGruder got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Aidan McSwan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 81 minutes into the match, Dunbeath FC's goal looked a bit too open when Aidan McSwan came free, but Mike Gunn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adam Webster during the 85th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Auchterarder's Adam Webster got a free kick in the 85th minute. In the 86th minute, one of Auchterarder:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Auchterarder. Derek McWhannell went to the wrong direction when Nigel Crum was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal.
