Seating: 1776, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Arthur McMath kicked off to start the match. Cumnock's Willie Storie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phil McAskill in the 9th minute of play. Raymond Munro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Malcolm Duthie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Raymond Munro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cumnock's Raymond Munro got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 31 minutes into the match, Stornoway United's Tommy Webster sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Willie Storie narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Cumnock's goalkeeper Willie Storie, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matt Rusk in the 38th minute of play forced Cumnock's goalkeeper Willie Storie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Phil McAskill recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lee McAngus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Lee McAngus fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willie Storie having to interfere. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The supporters of Cumnock booed when Stornoway United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matt Rusk didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 58 minutes, Raymond Munro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cumnock's supporters crossed their fingers, but Raymond Munro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tommy Webster fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willie Storie having to interfere. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Stornoway United's goalkeeper Malcolm Duthie, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Willie Storie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tommy Webster, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69th minute, Ben Lennie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A hard shot by Sid Paul from long distance, 71 minutes into the match, got Willie Storie's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Tommy Webster sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arthur McMath fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Malcolm Duthie having to interfere. A collision led to Stornoway United getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Chris McDonleavy hit a great ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Stornoway United eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
