Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 5 minutes into the game, Will Lombard was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Direwolves's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Celtic Rangers the free kick. Gregor McNeilage made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Greig McFater in the 8th minute of play. 10 minutes into the game, Celtic Rangers's Bradley Fullarton nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rupert Ayres made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Rupert Ayres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jimmy Gillon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Direwolves's zone, Bradley Fullarton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rupert Ayres came out of the goal and Bradley Fullarton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicholas McMurdoch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Bradley Fullarton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rory McCutchen in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rupert Ayres saved Direwolves from getting behind. Rupert Ayres came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Celtic Rangers's Rory McCutchen. But to his dismay, Rory McCutchen quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. 35 minutes into the match, Direwolves's goal looked a bit too open when Rory McCutchen came free, but Rupert Ayres reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bradley Fullarton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rupert Ayres read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. After having played for 44 minutes, Rory McCutchen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Celtic Rangers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rory McCutchen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Greig McFater to strike the kick off in the second half. When Jimmy Gillon fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Celtic Rangers's protests and gave Jimmy Gillon a yellow card for diving instead. In the 54th match minute, Celtic Rangers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jimmy Gillon to maneuver through the defense. Direwolves's Rupert Ayres proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Direwolves from getting a goal against them. Rory McCutchen might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rupert Ayres. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rory McCutchen ran back to his position shaking his head. Will Lombard hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. Rupert Ayres showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rory McCutchen, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. Jay McRankin's late challenge caught a Celtic Rangers's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jay McRankin helped the player get up and apologised. In the 78th match minute, Direwolves was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jay McRankin to maneuver through the defense. Bradley Fullarton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Rupert Ayres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 81 minutes into the match, Celtic Rangers's Rory McCutchen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rupert Ayres narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rory McCutchen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rupert Ayres having to interfere. In the 92nd minute, Rory McCutchen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Celtic Rangers played a much better game than Direwolves and deserved their victory. The Direwolves players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
