Seating: 1780, VIP seats: 154) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Davie McNuir made the kick off which started today's match. Gus Alcorn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ben Baird in the 4th minute of the match. Edinburgh Steelers FC's Gus Alcorn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by James McArthur in the 5th minute of play. Gus Alcorn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ben Baird, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 9 minutes of play, Portree's James McArthur made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gus Alcorn was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Ben Baird had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 19 minutes into the game, Ray McKelloch cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Taylor McKindlay was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Alisdair Hutchison hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute, Ben Baird left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Portree fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. The supporters of Portree booed when Edinburgh Steelers FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chris McPherson didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 30 minutes, Ben Baird managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Portree's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ben Baird was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gus Alcorn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ben Baird, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that James McArthur's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gus Alcorn was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ben Baird in the 36th minute of play forced Edinburgh Steelers FC's goalkeeper Gus Alcorn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, James McArthur managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portree's supporters rose to their feet, but James McArthur was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gus Alcorn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alisdair Hutchison recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ben Baird made a kick off. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by Edinburgh Steelers FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Frank McCluskie was slow to take the kick. During this time Portree's players had a chance to rest. A collision led to Portree getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Alan McCause hit a great ball. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Portree's goalkeeper Taylor McKindlay, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Portree's Michael McHugh got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ray McKelloch in the 66th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Taylor McKindlay prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Ray McKelloch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Davie McNuir sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Edinburgh Steelers FC's Davie McNuir got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Davie McNuir scored 2-2 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Taylor McKindlay, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gus Alcorn came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Portree's James McArthur. But to his dismay, James McArthur quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Portree had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
