Seating: 1876, VIP seats: 100) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Samuel McThomas made the kick off which started today's match. With a little luck, Tain City's Greig Blain got control of the ball when Samuel McThomas tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Larbert's zone, Ben Fox stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wayne Stalker came out of the goal and Ben Fox tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Samuel McThomas got free with Greig Blain in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Eddie Bontein managed to get in a good position for a shot. Larbert's supporters rose to their feet, but Eddie Bontein was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Greig Blain breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Samuel McThomas was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 29th minute. Larbert's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. If Eddie Bontein had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Greig Blain made an important save on a dangerous shot by Samuel McThomas in the 32nd minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Samuel McThomas got free with Greig Blain in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Steve McKail managed to get in a good position for a shot. Larbert's supporters rose to their feet, but Steve McKail was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Greig Blain breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 47th match minute, Tain City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Craig McMenzies to maneuver through the defense. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eric McGhie to strike the kick off in the second half. Samuel McThomas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Greig Blain having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Samuel McThomas in the 58th minute of play forced Tain City's goalkeeper Greig Blain to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. James Cottrill's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Greig Blain read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. 63 minutes into the match, Larbert's Samuel McThomas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Greig Blain narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tain City's Greig Blain played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rory Gibson in the 65th minute of play. Eddie Bontein received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Greig Blain tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tain City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Larbert the free kick. Wayne Stalker stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eric McGhie's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. 86 minutes into the match, Tain City's goal looked a bit too open when Eddie Bontein came free, but Greig Blain reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Troy McClymont had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the referee ended the match the Larbert players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
