FC Gordon Newtown's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. FC Gordon Newtown's defense didn't have a chance, in the 9th minute, when Kenny McCrouther scored to the left of an out of position Michael McQuire, making the score, 1-0. 12 minutes into the game, Kenny McCrouther recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Michael McQuire. Kenny McCrouther showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Richard Jamieson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Cowan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ray Cessford came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the FC Gordon Newtown fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ray Cessford couldn't finish the play. Richard Jamieson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ray Cessford, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. JOHNS CLUB's goal looked a bit too open when Paddy Sinclair came free, but Richard Jamieson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Michael McQuire made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kenny McCrouther in the 44th minute of play.

The wind increased when Ray Cessford made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Ray Cessford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Jamieson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arthur McMillan might have been able to make a better finish in the 55th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Michael McQuire. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arthur McMillan ran back to his position shaking his head. David Cowan's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 66thth minute, Richard Jamieson skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arthur McMillan in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Michael McQuire saved FC Gordon Newtown from getting behind. Andy McCaul kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Kenny McCrouther managed to get in a good position for a shot. ST. JOHNS CLUB's supporters rose to their feet, but Kenny McCrouther was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Michael McQuire breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 88 minutes, Stephen Cousland mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Gordon Newtown and the ST. JOHNS CLUB players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Gordon Newtown's Stephen Cousland got a free kick in the 88th minute. In the 89th minute, Robbie Pratt sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and FC Gordon Newtown's Michael McQuire didn't even have to move. Ronald Addison hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. FC Gordon Newtown's Michael McQuire played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arthur McMillan in the 96th minute of play. ST. JOHNS CLUB's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
