An unexpectedly hard shot by Billy McWilliam in the 8th minute of play forced Balerno's goalkeeper Rory Nish to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 10th minute, Kenny McDulothe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Billy McWilliam's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rory Nish was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. Edward McNeiledge charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Edward McNeiledge the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Billy McWilliam struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Rory Nish didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Glasgow Celtic. Alisdair White recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jake Aspin might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rory Nish. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jake Aspin ran back to his position shaking his head. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Billy McWilliam in the 25th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rory Nish prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Rory Nish showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Billy McWilliam in the 27th minute of the match. When Ronald McMichael came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Balerno fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronald McMichael couldn't finish the play. If Ronald McMichael had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rory Nish stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alisdair White's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Billy McWilliam received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Rory Nish tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alisdair White charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alisdair White the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 57 minutes of play, Balerno's Alistair McHardy made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Declan McGrewar was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 60th minute of the match Ian McAy sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Declan McGrewar skillfully saved the ball. In the 65th minute Alisdair White shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rory Nish saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 67 minutes, Ian McAy mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Balerno and the Glasgow Celtic players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Glasgow Celtic booed when Balerno was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ian McAy didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alisdair White received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Rory Nish tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Balerno's Rory Nish got control of the ball when Billy McWilliam tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Balerno getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Nigel Dobie hit a great ball. Balerno's Rory Nish proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Balerno from getting a goal against them. In the 89th minute, Alisdair White got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. During the 93rd minute of the match Ian McAy completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Ian McAy a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 94th match minute, Balerno was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ian McAy to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Balerno had won after a very even match.
