Daniel Lawrie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Glenrothes's zone, Bradley Stringer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edward McNey came out of the goal and Bradley Stringer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 16th minute Andy Ayson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edward McNey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 21st minute, Hugh Boyd got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Freshwater United's Hugh Ewart played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ross McTear in the 23rd minute of play. Chris Taylor's late challenge caught a Glenrothes's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Chris Taylor helped the player get up and apologised. Chris Taylor was shown his second yellow card after 31 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 33rd minute, Ross McTear left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Glenrothes fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thomas Fergus got free with Edward McNey in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thomas Fergus hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
