To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 70th minute, Steve McKindlay hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Donald Bontine showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Grant Ayres, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. When Phil Barclay fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mendax FC's protests and gave Phil Barclay a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Mendax FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 77th minute. Penalty! Steve McKindlay walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. A collision led to Mendax FC getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Nicky McCaa hit a great ball. Baloburn United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Graeme McCaa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
