In the 47th minute, Tom McCamie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Tom Wallace might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Duncan Findlater. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rod Gunn got free with Duncan Findlater in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 61 minutes into the match, Gordon United's goalkeeper Duncan Findlater had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rod Gunn. After a defensive mix-up in Montgomerie Galaxy's zone, Terence Ferguson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lewis Buckley came out of the goal and Terence Ferguson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 67 minutes into the game, Montgomerie Galaxy's Donald Lauchlan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Duncan Findlater made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 76 minutes, Terry Denune mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montgomerie Galaxy and the Gordon United players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Montgomerie Galaxy's Terry Denune got a free kick in the 76th minute. If Rod Gunn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rod Gunn recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 90 minutes into the match, Montgomerie Galaxy's goal looked a bit too open when Finlay Boyle came free, but Lewis Buckley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Montgomerie Galaxy eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
