Marcus Alsop made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Terence Bowers in the 25th minute of play. Marcus Alsop took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Terence Bowers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 32nd minute, Blair Georgeson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcus Alsop was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Terence Bowers might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcus Alsop. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Terence Bowers ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence Bowers in the 40th minute of play forced Golspie United's goalkeeper Marcus Alsop to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Terence Bowers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The wind increased when Terence Bowers made the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the game, Marcus McEachin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Golspie United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Montrose FC the free kick. The supporters of Golspie United booed when Montrose FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 99 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rory McMurrich didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 101 played minutes, Golspie United's Jim Charles shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Declan McLardy came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Golspie United reached it. Montrose FC played a much better game than Golspie United and deserved their victory. The Golspie United players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
