Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Rick McEachern made the kick off and thus started the match. Declan McLardy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rick McEachern in the 5th minute of the match. After having played for 8 minutes, Terence Bowers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Montrose FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Terence Bowers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Terence Bowers kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Sean Elliott. That made the score 1-0 in the 11 minute of play. A collision led to Montrose FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Fraser Laidlaw hit a great ball. In the 17th minute, Blair Georgeson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sean Elliott was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Sean Elliott made an important save on a dangerous shot by Blair Georgeson in the 21st minute. 29 minutes into the game, Joseph McNey was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Avoch's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Montrose FC the free kick. In the 29th match minute, Avoch was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joseph McNey to maneuver through the defense. 30 minutes into the match, Avoch's goal looked a bit too open when Terence Bowers came free, but Sean Elliott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sean Elliott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Terence Bowers, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. In the 32nd minute Guy McAdam suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Joseph McNey was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 32 minutes had been played. Davie McGilroy hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Davie McGilroy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Elliott having to interfere. Blair Georgesons short, quick shot in the 38thth minute got Sean Elliott to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With his leg Sean Elliott managed to avoid a goal in the 39thth minute, when Montrose FC's Terence Bowers fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 41 minutes of play, Montrose FC's Blair Georgeson made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sean Elliott was left in no man's land by his defense there! No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Blair Georgeson made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, Avoch's goal looked a bit too open when Blair Georgeson came free, but Sean Elliott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Avoch booed when Montrose FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fraser Laidlaw didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fraser Laidlaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Sean Elliott tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kenny Wharrie blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Declan McLardy having to make a save. After 69 minutes, Fraser Laidlaw mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Montrose FC and the Avoch players grew even worse after the yellow card. Fraser Laidlaw kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. 71 minutes into the match, Montrose FC's goal looked a bit too open when Kenny Wharrie came free, but Declan McLardy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 74th minute, Davie McGilroy got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Avoch's zone, Fraser Laidlaw stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sean Elliott came out of the goal and Fraser Laidlaw tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 78 minutes into the game, Rory McMurrich was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Montrose FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Avoch the free kick. In the 78th minute, Rory McMurrich hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 79 minutes into the match, Montrose FC's goalkeeper Declan McLardy had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wayne Cooke. In the 81st minute Blair Georgeson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sean Elliott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Norman McComas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Declan McLardy having to interfere. If Blair Georgeson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wayne Cooke's late challenge caught a Montrose FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wayne Cooke helped the player get up and apologised. In the 88th match minute, Avoch was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wayne Cooke to maneuver through the defense. Montrose FC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
