Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Terence Bowers got the match started through his kick off. Willie Griesck recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 6th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the Montrose FC defense, Tony McGeachin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Declan McLardy. The Montrose FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Declan McLardy should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Montrose FC's zone, Willie Griesck stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Declan McLardy came out of the goal and Willie Griesck tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tony McGeachin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Declan McLardy made a huge save. After having played for 21 minutes, Davie McGilroy managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Montrose FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Davie McGilroy was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 23 minutes of play, Montrose FC's Blair Georgeson made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cameron McKaskill was left in no man's land by his defense there! Dean Saunders kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Rory McMurrich kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Tony McGeachin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Declan McLardy having to interfere. After having played for 40 minutes, Terence Bowers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Montrose FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Terence Bowers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Blair Georgeson in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cameron McKaskill prevented the ball from getting in the gole. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Willie Griesck made the kick off in the second half. When Blair Georgeson came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Montrose FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Blair Georgeson couldn't finish the play. Montrose FC's Blair Georgeson got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Willie Griesck managed to get in a good position for a shot. Duns's supporters rose to their feet, but Willie Griesck was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Declan McLardy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Declan McLardy came out of the goal in the 59th minute to try and stop a shot by Duns's Tony McGeachin. But to his dismay, Tony McGeachin quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. 62 minutes into the match, Montrose FC's goal looked a bit too open when Tony McGeachin came free, but Declan McLardy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 64 minutes, Dean Saunders mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Duns and the Montrose FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 66th minute, Blair Georgeson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Terence Bowers in the 67th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cameron McKaskill saved Duns from getting behind. Willie Griesck received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Declan McLardy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 74th match minute, Montrose FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Davie McGilroy to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Montrose FC's zone, Tony McGeachin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Declan McLardy came out of the goal and Tony McGeachin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cameron McKaskill made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. Terence Bowers might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cameron McKaskill. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Terence Bowers ran back to his position shaking his head. Duns's Cameron McKaskill played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Terence Bowers in the 87th minute of play. Willie Griesck fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Declan McLardy having to interfere. If Tony McGeachin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 94th minute, Owen McSween hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
