Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) After a defensive mix-up in Renfrew AFC's zone, Graeme Carr stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ben Bryde came out of the goal and Graeme Carr tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 14 minutes into the match, Renfrew AFC's Angus McMaurice sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nicol Burnes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 15th minute Malcolm McIock shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicol Burnes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16th match minute, Stromness was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rupert Nelson to maneuver through the defense. 17 minutes into the match, Malcolm McIock notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Stromness's Nicol Burnes. Nicol Burnes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 23rd minute, Malcolm McIock ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nicol Burnes was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Stromnesss' Ben Bryde made a terrific save as he just managed to stop Graeme Carrs penalty just before it crossed the line at his left post. In the 30th minute, Graeme Carr got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nicol Burnes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Malcolm McIock, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Malcolm McIock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicol Burnes having to interfere. A hard shot 42 in the game by Ken McCrimmor from a close distance when the talented Ben Bryde managed to make a qualified save. Renfrew AFC's players were relieved. When Graeme Carr came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Stromness fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Graeme Carr couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Angus McMaurice stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Malcolm McIocks short, quick shot in the 53rdth minute got Nicol Burnes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Malcolm McIock could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Nicol Burnes made a huge save. Keith Cattanach sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Keith Cattanach's late challenge caught a Renfrew AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Keith Cattanach helped the player get up and apologised. Malcolm McIock who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 77thth minute tested the skills of Nicol Burnes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpected shot in the 79th minute by Malcolm McIock got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 79th minute of the match, Malcolm McIock got a very nice opportunity to score, but Nicol Burnes was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Keith Cattanach got his second yellow card in the match during the 80th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of Renfrew AFC booed when Stromness was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Keith Cattanach didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nicol Burnes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Angus McMaurice in the 84th minute of the match. Stromness's Steven Barns got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Stromness's Nicol Burnes got control of the ball when Malcolm McIock tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nicol Burnes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angus McMaurice, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Chants of Renfrew AFC echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Stromness had held the ball for most of the match.
