Cairndow Stadium
Spectators: 6942 (Terracing: 5000,
Seating: 1942, VIP seats: 0) Dougal McKellaig made the kick off and thus started the match. In the 10th minute of the match, Gus Hill tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but John McIlduy saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When the match had gone on for 12 minutes, Michael Williamson put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of John McIlduy. Troy McConnechy's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but John McIlduy firmly grabbed it by the left post. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Dougal McKellaig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newcastleton's supporters rose to their feet, but Dougal McKellaig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Oliver Kean breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 21st minute Gus Hill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John McIlduy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Cairndow City's Michael Williamson got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Cairndow City's Oliver Kean played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by James McBean in the 26th minute of play. After 30 played minutes Cairndow City got a freekick which was hit by Michael Williamson. With a couple of smart ball manuevers James McBean in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Oliver Kean saved Cairndow City from getting behind. The supporters of Newcastleton booed when Cairndow City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Derek Dis didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 33rd minute of the match Raymond Elliott shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Oliver Kean showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 41 minutes into the game, Troy McConnechy was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cairndow City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newcastleton the free kick. After 42 played minutes Cairndow City got a freekick which was hit by Troy McConnechy. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Michael Williamson to make the kick off. After 54th play minutes James McBean shot 2-1, a short shot which went by Oliver Kean and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 58th minute, Newcastleton's Tommy McDiarmid seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Tommy McDiarmid the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Newcastleton protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Tommy McDiarmid had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. John McIlduy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Troy McConnechy in the 62nd minute of the match. Newcastleton's John McIlduy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arthur Burk in the 64th minute of play. Troy McConnechy kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. 68 minutes into the match, Cairndow City's goal looked a bit too open when James McBean came free, but Oliver Kean reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 70 played minutes Cairndow City got a freekick which was hit by Mark Forster. When James McBean came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Newcastleton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that James McBean couldn't finish the play. Oliver Kean took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from James McBean, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gus Hill in the 79th minute of play forced Newcastleton's goalkeeper John McIlduy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Michael Williamson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 83rd minute Troy McConnechy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John McIlduy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 84th minute, Michael Williamson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dougal McKellaig recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Oliver Kean made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from James McBean in the 87th minute of play. In the 92nd minute James McBean shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oliver Kean saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
