Phil Dobbie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frank Allan having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Greenock's goalkeeper Frank Allan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kenny Haws. After 40th play minutes Miles McAndrew shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Aaron McIan and just under the crossbar into goal. After 43 played minutes Greenock got a freekick which was hit by Johnny Bateman. After 46 played minutes Alva got a freekick which was hit by Wal McLairish. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fergus Abbie to make the kick off. Miles McAndrew could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Aaron McIan made a huge save. Aaron McIan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ian Moray in the 54th minute. After having played for 58 minutes, Jake Brebner managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Alva's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jake Brebner was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Frank Allan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kenny Haws in the 60th minute of the match. In the 62nd minute Phil Dobbie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Allan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicol McCuag hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Greenock's Johnny Bateman tried to score from far away in the 66th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Alva's Aaron McIan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save Alva from getting a goal against them. 71 minutes into the match, Fergus Abbie dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Aaron McIan, 0-2. Frank Allan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kenny Haws in the 75th minute of play. Alva's Kenny Haws got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alva's Aaron McIan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Alva from getting a goal against them. Aaron McIan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fergus Abbie, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. 0-3 became the score in the 88th minute when Miles McAndrew elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Miles McAndrew's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Aaron McIan firmly grabbed it by the left post.
