A collision led to Greenock getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Logan McKellaigh hit a great ball. Muir United's Rupert Campbell came free and shot a quick shot against goal 8 minutes in the game, fortunately Frank Allan had problems saving as it came toward the left post. After 10 played minutes Muir United got a freekick which was hit by Rupert Campbell. In the 14th minute Douglas Hutchinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicky McEwan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Greenock's zone, Rupert Campbell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Frank Allan came out of the goal and Rupert Campbell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicky McEwan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fergus Abbie in the 19th minute of the match. With a little luck, Greenock's Frank Allan got control of the ball when Rupert Campbell tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Douglas Hutchinson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marc Duilach's late challenge caught a Muir United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marc Duilach helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd match minute, Greenock was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marc Duilach to maneuver through the defense. Rupert Campbells short, quick shot in the 24thth minute got Frank Allan to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 26 minutes into the game, Greenock's Douglas Hutchinson nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nicky McEwan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Logan McKellaigh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nicky McEwan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Douglas Hutchinson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Greenock booed when Muir United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Larry McLulich didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fergus Abbie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicky McEwan having to interfere. Frank Allan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Scott Kinnell in the 43rd minute of play. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

In the 51st match minute, Muir United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Larry McLulich to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Fergus Abbie kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nicky McEwan. That made the score 1-2 in the 52 minute of play. 56 minutes into the match, Muir United's goal looked a bit too open when Fergus Abbie came free, but Nicky McEwan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fergus Abbie in the 59th minute of play forced Muir United's goalkeeper Nicky McEwan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Greenock's Frank Allan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Larry McLulich in the 63rd minute of play. Nicky McEwan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fergus Abbie, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Larry McLulich charged in rather forcefully in the 73rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Larry McLulich the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 73 played minutes Muir United got a freekick which was hit by Larry McLulich. When Muir United's Rupert Campbell in the 77th minute got a chance for a shot 77th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Greenock's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpected shot in the 78th minute by Fergus Abbie got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a rather tough play, Greenock's Logan McKellaigh got a free kick in the 83rd minute. After a defensive mix-up in Muir United's zone, Douglas Hutchinson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicky McEwan came out of the goal and Douglas Hutchinson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rupert Campbell hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. 96 minutes into the match, Greenock's goal looked a bit too open when Rupert Campbell came free, but Frank Allan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
