When Américo Velasques fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.L.Benfica's protests and gave Américo Velasques a yellow card for diving instead. After 73 played minutes S.L.Benfica got a freekick which was hit by Américo Velasques. The supporters of Cabeco booed when S.L.Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafim Graça didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rubim Brito recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gastão Mesquita kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. S.L.Benfica's Gregório Quental played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivo Figueiras in the 93rd minute of play.
